Welcome! This is a website that everyone can build together. It's easy!

HomeThis is a featured page

This is a site to share information on social networking for education, particularly higher education, but also (hopefully) to include other forms of formal and non-formal learning as well. We started the idea to be an extension of a book on social networking in education, and to give others the opportunity to expand and update the book in this fast-moving field. Please contribute and improve this shared space.

Note that there is also a discussion forum for personal opinions etc.

Hello,

I have just finished reading your E-Learning and Social Networking Handbook. I found it an invaluable resource to use for the classroom. I was introduced to Second Life for the first time while reading your book, and in the past two days I have heard news threads about 1) a man and women getting divorced because of his simulated "affair" with a Second Life woman and 2) a baby dying of starvation because the mother and father were nurturing an online baby.

Granted, I definitely would not want to discourage the use for the many because of a few odd cases, but I think that this is a fascinating phenomenon occurring, socially and psychologically. I would love to hear your insights into this, and maybe how we as educators can prepare students psychologically for the power that these sites can have.

Just to let users know: As I was typing a contribution, I needed to check a website, but my Internet Explorer closed the blog page when it went there I had not anticipated this, and consequently lost the messsage I'd written. It is a pity that webpaint apparently cannot hold onto drafts.
